Just a few things:
1. I'm 92.7% sure that he was on something at that time so maybe he didn't even know what he was saying.
2. Do you actually "retire" from film making? It's not like the NBA or the NFL. As an actor, if you no longer want to make films don't you just stop accepting scripts/parts. Is there really a need to announce it?
3. What was the deal with him getting all bent and blowing off that reporter?
4. It's press like this that moves him down a notch or two on the like-a-bility scale.
5. Lastly, I can't light a candle for him. Not after that. Sorry Paul.
First off, I would like to say that I believe that there are a lot of multi-talented individuals in the world that are making it huge. It appears that Joaquin Phoenix is not one of them.
Secondly, as a general rule, you never know how bad you will fail if you don't try in the first place. As the old addage goes, "Fun and Failure both start out the same way."
